Judge Abram Lane KIRKLAND was born ca (1800/01) in Bullock County Georgia.  Abram was the eldest of seven children of John Kirkland and wife Elizabeth Lane. On 21 April 1825 he married Eliza Lewis (1805-1883).The 1860 census shows  5 children at home. They lived in Emanuel County and Abram  served as tax collector of Emanuel   County 1836,1838 and 1839. He was elected as one of two delegates  to the Georgia Convention of 1861 for Emanuel County, he first voted against secession, however once secession was approved on January 19, 1861, he signed the Ordinance of Secession for the State of Georgia.

His home was later burned in the winter of 1864 by Sherman’s men in retaliation it is supposed for him signing the secession order.

He died in 1880 in Emanuel County Georgia, the exact location of his grave is unknown it is widely accepted, as there is a Kirkland Cemetery in Emanuel County with several of his children and descendents which  contain a number of unmarked graves that he and his wife are buried there.
